Responsible Development
The concept of responsible development is not new to Colorado, and it should not seem new to the progressive values of Boulder.  In Denver, communities have fought for and won firm commitments from developers and city officials to guarantee that projects are not done without solid protections for low-income residents, the rights of workers, and the integrity of the environment.  In Boulder, the University of Colorado made a commitment to guarantee that half a dozen major capital construction projects were completed with responsible contracting "best value" standards in place, as well as truly green building standards.  If responsible development can take root elsewhere in the region, the City of Boulder can make the same commitment a reality, too.

The oversights on the 30th St. Improvement project unfortunately leave the most critical components to responsible development unchecked.  We're working to make sure our bike path development can mitigate damages to local business & the environment while raising standards for contracted worker training & safety in the nation's deadliest industry. With just a little more time to improve the improvement, these and other key protections can be put in place.
